$5,000 Cars: What’s the deal?
MATS has been in the car business for decades, and we still get the same requests we did fifteen years ago: a $5,000 car with Honda/Toyota reliability and as low mileage as possible. So, we’ve got a big question to answer. Do $5k cars even exist?
Yes… but also… not really.
Due to the big shift in the market nearly four years ago, 8.1 million cars were never built. The decrease in inventory drastically changed the prices of cars everywhere and the availability of the cheaper ones went out the window. We used to occasionally find a good quality car for $5-10,000, but these days, it’s nearly impossible.
You might scour the internet for a vehicle under $10,000 and find one. And why wouldn’t you want to take the time to do that? After all, $10,000 is a lot of money!
While you might be able to find a vehicle under $10k, it’s highly unlikely that the car is smoke free, lacking mechanical issues, and actually high quality. The truth is, if the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is!
At MATS, we aim to help you find a quality vehicle while you steward your money and resources. The cheaper the vehicle, the more likely it is to have major, expensive issues in the near future. Because MATS performs a full inspection with repairs, it’s nearly impossible to buy you a quality car at that price point.
Another of our goals is to mitigate risk for you. We want you to be glad you bought your car in the months and years to come.
As a small business depending on positive customer experience, we won’t sell you a car that you’re going to regret. As some of our buying experts say, “We don’t need the commission bad enough to do bad business.”
So yes, these cars may exist, but rarely with the reliability for which you’ve come to depend on MATS.
