Grocery Store Haggling
Let’s talk about pricing and the notorious need to haggle over your car sale.
Imagine you’re at the grocery store. You need milk, bananas, apples, and a few items for tonight’s dinner. After grabbing the produce, you head to the cooler section for milk and find that it is full price today. That is to say, the milk is priced at market value.
What a bummer! However, there is nothing wrong with the milk. The expiration date isn’t nearing, the container is clean, and the milk itself is exactly what you want. So, do you take the milk to the check-out counter and ask for a discount anyways?
Of course not – you pay the market price for the milk without thinking too much about it. After all, you aren’t even sure what it costs to get milk on the shelves in good condition. And, now that you think about it, isn’t the milk usually discounted only when it’s about to expire? See where we are going with this?
Haggling Requires Expertise
We would never expect someone to haggle over costs in the store. Haggling puts the consumer in the uncomfortable position of “expert,” expecting them to know the very specific market for an item and its price. The average milk-shopper doesn’t work on a farm or own a production facility; therefore, we doesn’t ask them to know information to which they simply don’t have easy access.
The same is true of people shopping for cars. You work in ministry, finance, retail, schools, healthcare. You have put countless hours into your expertise. You’ve likely accumulated knowledge you didn’t even know you had until someone asked you a question, and whoa, the answer popped into your brain.
When car companies open the door to haggling over prices, they corner their clients. The consumer is stuck, quickly attempting to learn the ins and outs of an industry they only visit every 5-10 years. What an impossible feat.
MATS Doesn’t Haggle Over Prices
At MATS, we don’t expect you to be a car expert. Becoming an expert simply requires too much time. You’re an expert at something else, and we are glad you make the world a little brighter in your select field.
We have our own team of experts that know exactly how to find and purchase great vehicles, and another team of experts who know how to recondition those vehicles completely. When you are ready to buy, don’t sweat needing to haggle the price. We don’t do that anyways.
